2026 HONOREE: JOHN (JACK) RYAN

Jack Ryan, 2026 Honoree

Jack was born on October 14, 1949, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany NY to Dotty and “Red” Ryan, growing up in the town of Colonie. He attended Our Lady of Angels Elementary School, then transferred to Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School, from which he graduated in 1963. Jack then attended Colonie Central High School, where he played on the Varsity baseball, golf, bowling, and soccer teams, graduating in 1967. He then graduated from SUNY Morrisville in 1969, majoring in Wood Products Engineering. He then attended the College of Environmental Sciences at Syracuse University, graduating in 1971.

Upon graduation, Jack worked for Weyerhauser Company, and was selected for their prestigious Managerial Fast Track Program, moving into Sales, then Management. He stayed with Weyerhauser for approximately 10 years, moving from their Farmingdale to their Mahway NJ locations.

After leaving Weyerhauser, Jack worked as an independent representative for various local wood products distributors, including 17 years for Kleet Lumber. He is still involved in the sale of building materials to the residential and commercial construction trades.

Jack’s Irish heritage has been traced back to County Tipperary, where, as a result of the Great Hunger, his great-grandfather Patrick Ryan left Ireland in 1846, settling in upstate New York.

Jack is an avid golfer, has a 2nd degree Black Belt in Jujitsu, is a champion equestrian, was a competitive sailor with the Northport Yacht Club and still sings with the Hibernian Festival Singers. Plus, he’s an avid Yankees fan.

In 2008, Jack started the Jim Reagan Memorial Food Drive, expanding it to neighboring parishes. During their annual Turkey Drive, Division 4 donates over $8000 to local food pantries. This program has expanded to AOH Suffolk County as The John Hennessy Memorial Hunger Program.

Not to be forgotten is Jack’s dedication to the Fatima Group at St. Patrick’s Parish. He wishes to thank Msgr. Camp for allowing the opportunity to put this program together. Jack distributes prayer cards and posters for the Fatima Groups in other local parishes.

Jack joined the Hibernians 26 years ago, and since then has held many positions on the Division, County and State Levels, including past Division and past County Presidents. In 2014 Jack was the Suffolk County AOH Aide-to-the-Grand-Marshal for the NYC St. Patrick’s Parade, and in 2017, he was the Grand Marshal for the Huntington St. Patrick’s Parade.

Jack feels his years with the Hibernians have enabled him to help many families in the local communities. He wants to thank everyone for their years of friendship, support and understanding. God Bless You All.

PAUL G. COSTELLO: BELOVED BROTHER AND FRIEND

Paul Costello, 2026 Honoree

The Paul G. Costello Memorial Golf Outing honors our longtime friend, brother and past Treasurer of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Div 4.

Paul was law clerk to acting State Supreme Court Justice Daniel Martin at the time of his death, but during his career he served as an assistant District Attorney, Inspector General of the Suffolk Department of Social Services, head of the county attorney’s Family Court Bureau and a board member of Suffolk Off-Track Betting Corp.

A man with extraordinary intellect and unwavering devotion to his friends, colleagues and brothers. Paul was a true Hibernian through and through. When March rolled around it was his time to shine. Paul is truly missed.

A huge supporter of our Food Bank, proceeds will go to enhance its mission.
